International Grand Masters Hockey Festival 23 t/m 30 juni

The 2023-2024 season is a very special one for Hockey Club Klein Zwitserland (HCKZ). At the start of the season in 2023, the two clubs T.O.G.O. and HH&YC, that merged to form the new club HCKZ, would have been 115 and 90 years old respectively. As the merger took place in 1974, the end of the season in 2024, will mark the “Golden Wedding Anniversary” of the successful and internationally renowned Hockey Club Klein Zwitserland.

This calls for celebrations throughout the season and what better way to end the season than with an International Grand Masters Hockey Festival for non-national teams of men and women over 60, to emphasize the spirit of a life-long hockey, both at club level as well as at international level.

The World Grand Masters Association (WGMA) is very glad that it has found Hockey Club Klein Zwitserland prepared to host this tournament in an ongoing commitment to support quality social hockey for men’s and women’s teams in all age groups over 60.

Hockey Club Klein Zwitserland is situated in the NW corner of The Hague at only 2,5 km. from the beach at the seaside resort of Scheveningen. The club was the host venue for the highly successful WGMA World Cup in 2014 and now has five water-based hockey pitches and one sand-based. The clubhouse has eight changing rooms, and a range of facilities to host the Grand Masters Hockey “family” in a manner that they have come to expect.

Rules, regulations and special amendments

  1. The tournament will be played according to the latest FIH Rules of Hockey. This includes the use of the proper equipment (sticks, protective equipment, caps, etc.). All players and managers will be expected to familiarize themselves with those rules.
  2. For safety reasons, random equipment checks will be carried out by umpires.
  3. Duration of matches will be the standard 4 x 17,5 minutes without stoppages for PC’s and goals. There will be a 2 min. interval after Q1 and Q3 and 5 min. interval at half time.
  4. Three points will be awarded for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a loss.
  5. If a drawn match needs a decision, the result will be decided by penalty strokes rather than penalty shoot-outs, following the established procedures.
  6. If one or more teams have an equal number of points after the pool phase, standing in the pool will be determined according to the relevant FIH rules.
  7. Teams are allowed to field a maximum of 18 players in a match, provided two of them are goalkeepers or 16 players if there is only one goalkeeper. Teams wishing to bring more than 18 players should contact Jaap Quarles van Ufford (jaapquarles@hotmail.com) for a special ruling on the subject.
  8. Teams are expected to bring two sets of shirts and socks of a different colour. If there is a potential problem, the “away team” will always use their second colour.
  9. Players are expected to have individual shirt numbers which shall remain the same throughout the tournament. Note: each number shall appear only once in the team line-up.
  10. Teams in the O60 and O65 category are allowed two underage players while the O70, O75 and O80 teams are allowed three. These players should not be more than two years underage. This is in line with previous WGMA tournaments. Teams in desperate need of an exemption to this rule must contact Jaap Quarles van Ufford (jaapquarles@hotmail.com) for a special ruling.
